Wine Notes Ripe Syrah grapes were hand-harvested mid-April, creating a wine with an aroma of concentrated cassis, violets and white pepper. Cranberry and wild strawberry fl avours are complemented by satin soft blackberry notes and well integrated oak. The tannins are ripe and yet firm and support a long, lingering finish. Foodmatch This classic Syrah shows lovely soft and elegant fruit and will be most complemented by game, poultry, wild mushroom dishes, pork and beef tenderloins or barbecued meat. Viticulture The main block of Syrah vines at Paritua Vineyards border one side of the main road into our winery. The soil type there—a deep red shingle base lying under a shallow covering of Ngatarawa sandy loam—makes this a superb Syrah growing area. Syrah 2006 includes hand-picked fruit from two French clones, 174 and Chave. Cellaring Potential Best drinking 2007 and up to 2010. Winemaking De-stemmed fruit was fermented in a closed tank at controlled temperatures to retain the soft and elegant fruit flavours. Gentle pressing and oak maturation in mainly one year old French oak barriques for 10 months gives this wine added elegance and complexity. |
